59. Royal Botanic Kew Gardens, UK
Another garden travel vlog to one of the oldest Botanical Gardens in the world!
Hi everyone, this newsletter let me walk you through Springtime in Royal Botanic The Kew Gardens <3
Outside London, in the town of Richmond, lies a vast expanse of land filled with gardens, a research centre, botanical school, experimental gardens, potagers and more. Originally housing Royal residences as far back as the 1200s, over centuries The Kew Gardens has grown into one of the largest botanical research sites in the world. The Gardens became a national botanical garden in 1840 and some say it is the largest official botanical garden in the world at 330 acres/133 hectares. It certainly is one of the most diverse I have ever visited. It has long been on my travel wish list so I was overjoyed to visit last month during the height of Springtime flowers. I spent six sweltering hours visiting as much as I could, and I still couldn’t manage to see absolutely everything.
As filled with tourists as it gets (especially around The Chelsea Flower Show), The Kew is large enough to find your own quiet corner to sit, read and enjoy the nature. I saw a few cute couples toting picnic baskets as well. It’s a must-see if you find yourself in the area, and getting there from London is straightforward using public transportation.
Wishing you a relaxing Sunday, enjoy this virtual tour of The Kew <3
Have a wonderful week! See you next time for a recap to our trip to the mountainous region of Munduk in Bali, where the flowers are grown to make canang sari (floral offerings).
